The IRS has commenced an auditing program by reviewing recorded deeds in order to find unreported gifts of real estate interests, as detailed in a newly drafted legal guide by Steven J. Fromm, an estate and tax attorney in Philadelphia, PA.
The legal guide, entitled "IRS Checking Real Estate Transfers For Unreported Gifts: A Legal Guide to Federal Gift Tax Rules," explores the wide range of federal gift tax rules and related income tax issues. The guide will be of great importance to individual taxpayers who are contemplating - or have already completed - gifts of real estate interests to family members, as well as real estate agents and real estate attorneys, as the IRS implements an aggressive campaign to audit taxpayers for gifts of real estate interests.
