One of Reese Witherspoon’s more famous roles was as the perky young attorney in Legally Blonde. Late last week, she accompanied her parents to court in a much more somber setting.

A new scam is hitting grandparents right where they may be most vulnerable, their own grandchildren’s safety and well being. If a grandparent receives a call from a grandchild in trouble, they would normally immediately offer assistance. In this particular scam, a grandparent receives a telephone call from someone alleging to be their grandchild. . . .
Although financial advisors and attorneys have told us for years to start estate planning early on in life, many people put it off on the theory that “if I don’t have a fortune to protect yet then why do I need an estate plan?” The answer to that question is best illustrated by a recent example. Social media giant Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerburg and Dustin Moskovitz when the pair were still in their early 20s. Today, the pair are reportedly worth billions of dollars. Because they both created estate plans early on, they now stand to legally shift over $185 million to trust beneficiaries without paying gift taxes on the transfers. . . .

As you probably know by now, the world is supposed to end late in 2012. It couldn’t be coming at a better time. Given the state of the economy, the continuing problems with housing and unemployment, the issues with Europe, and the upcoming Presidential elections, maybe it is time to simply hit the reset button- if there is one, and start over again. . . .
